I know it’s hard to comprehend, but sometimes unpleasant things like this happen. By interrupting his address to speak directly to any schoolchildren who may have watched the “Challenger” tragedy, former President Reagan uses apostrophe. Rather than continuing with a normal address, Reagan speaks to schoolchildren in order to describe how bad things happen directly, but America must continue to explore and make an effort to discover new things even in the face of risk. “I’d go on, even to the great heyday of the Roman Empire. And I’d there to see developments around, through various emperors and leaders.

But I wouldn’t stop there. I’d even appear to your day of the Renaissance, and get a quick picture of all that the Renaissance do for the social and aesthetic life of man. But I wouldn’t stop there. I would even pass the way that the man for whom I am called acquired his habitat. And I would watch Martin Luther as he tacked his ninety-five theses on the door at the church of Wittenberg.

But I wouldn’t stop there. Here, King uses climax by increasing the need for his words as he continues to speak. By carrying on to include more in each paragraph, he retains the audience interested and thrilled to hear what else he could be going to do also. He continues to state “but I wouldn’t stop there.” By saying this and adding more details, he builds intensity in his words, which impact the audience on the deeper level. By saying “and more” instead of list more ideas he is convinced Americans should honor, former President Kennedy uses ellipsis.

His exclusion of additional words and phrases not only puts emphasis on the ideas he said before but also forces the reader to think of other ideas they should pledge to. Kennedy includes the ellipsis to keep the audience thinking, and because they are told by him there are many more ideas to pledge to rather than listing them all, he could be successful. Former President Kennedy uses hyperbole by exaggerating America’s power.
